So recently although we havn't been playing a lot I've been going to a lot of shows and they've been completely sick.
In the easter holidays I went to see the AFI show in Brixton with my girlfriend. Hardcore isn't her thing, so I figured this would be one that we'd potentially both enjoy. 'The Dear and the Departed' opened it, they we're alrite but a bit boring I thought. Lauren liked them though, they sound a bit like the killers but with a bit more punk in there, i guess thats just american rock n roll though.
Sick Of It all were brilliant, there was mo$h for them which I quite enjoyed, especially Scratch the Surface, epic. Then needless to say AFI put on a wicked show and although I'm not too fussed about the newer stuff on record, they pull it off well live so I think I might give it a few more spins, just to see what happens. They blended it in well with the Sing The Sorrow stuff, which is moroless retro for them now apparently... the good showman that is Davey Havoc was throwing his mic about, and erm... broke it. Nobber.
Then the next show I went to ( I think) musta been Cancer Bats/Trash Talk/ChickenHawk with Dazz. It. was. ACE. chickenhawk are a good band technically, but perhaps I just don't get them, maybe I haven't listened to them enough. Trash Talk killed it, then the venue called the police on them. still a sweeeeeet show though, cos if theres any kind of music where its okay to play a 15 minute set its the kind Trash Talk play, cos you can still fit in about 15 songs.
Cancer Bats, being one of my favourite bands right now, were the one I was looking forward to the most. It was pretty explosive. Sorceress was dope, Deaths March was dope, Liam Cormier is a babe.
Then the next week was back at school.... mega boring.
23rd April is st. Georges day so you can always rely on a good ol' patriotic OI gig... which I was skeptical of but to my ears I heard no racism. To sum up the gig, there was me, some 40 year old skinheads. and their kids.....
......I know. But Tendons are a good band so it was pretty worth it.
Then 24th April was a show I put on... C Is For City came from like, Reigate to open the show. It was their first show so that was pretty rad. I felt quite bad that nobody was there, theres no scene in bedford for hardcore so I don't know why I do it. they kicked it though, im looking forward to seeing them again.
We played 2nd, kicked up some fuss. Envyfours crowd was there so hopefully we entertained them a bit. Envyfour came and did there thing for half an hour and then cos them and their friends are all pretty much 15/16 but look 14 the bouncer came and chucked 'em out. good old tim.... what a twat. I couldn't really do anything about it, he did the same to us and our mates when we were that age, and the same to the dilenQuents. and doubtless he'll do the same further down the line.
Onwards and upwards, Set Apart came down and did there thing. I liked it, standard fast and then steppy hardcore a good listen and doubtlessly in a better venue with a better crowd would get things kicking off. Wolfbeast Destroyer played there crust/heavyasfuck/d-beat and I reckon were the best band of the day. besides 1000 Hertz who put on an awesome show,, check em out cos they're giving away their album for free.
Oh yeah, will hopefully be getting some t-shirts printed by Vinosangre, and designed by Jason dilenQuent. They'll turn out pretty rad me thinks....
THATS ALL NOW BYE!
